KENT MOTORCYCLES’ OPEN DAY
by Tony Rowlinson
Bright and early Saturday morning
2nd May found Charles Tassel, Brian
Baker and myself setting up the
EKAM mobile HQ at Kent M/C's
forecourt in preparation for the open
weekend. The weather was dry and
showed the promise of some
sunshine. Honda's mobile
display unit (made our HQ look
a bit teeny) was on site with
the promise of all the free tea
and coffee we could drink.
Just about all the Honda range
was on display and available
for demo rides.What more
could we ask for. Brian Baker
and myself thought it would be
a good idea to do a dry run, so
to speak, of the route just to
check that nothing untoward
had happened to it since the last
time. You know, purely for safety’s
sake really! I took out a brand
spanking new shiny Fire Blade
and Brian settled for a CBX1300.
Wow! What a couple of bikes,
good candidates for "Bike of the
month " reports. Brilliant fun, and
the brakes on the Blade were
awesome.
Anyway the morning started of
fairly quiet with the first ride out
taking place at 10am. After a
quick safety brief to all we set off.
The ride outs were roughly on
the hour throughout the day. The
day got busier and all the EKAM
members who attended were kept
busy giving away freebie bags, doing
assessment rides and generally
talking to a wide variety of bikers
about the benefits of advanced
tuition.
I think everybody from the club who
attended got the chance to ride
whatever they wanted and had a
whale of a time in the process. I
know I did. The Goldwing was
something else (my wife certainly
thought so) and the CBR1000 – well,
I'm off again

The Sunday very much followed on
from Saturday with
a few riders
coming back for
assessment rides
who were too late
to have them
Saturday
afternoon. On the
whole a good
exercise enjoyed
by all who
attended. We had
no dropped bikes
and no one got
permanently lost. We even
managed to sign up a few new
members, several showed great
interest and hopefully will join in
due course.

Thanks to everybody who helped
out and I hope they enjoyed the
weekend as much as I did. Roll on
the next one.
