There was a huge turn
out for our popular
annual fish and chip club
night run. We
congregated at the Bike
Shop Faversham and at
6.15pm John Hull led out
the first group with yours
truly bringing up the rear. The drop off system
worked a treat and proved invaluable amongst the
evening traffic in Faversham. John’s route took us
via Eastling, Lenham, Headcorn, Smarden Bell,
Biddenden, skirted Tenterden, the A28 to
Newenden via Rolvenden, Peasmarsh Road to
Rye. It was a lovely warm summer evening and a
very pleasant ride.
It took about an hour to reach Rye where club night
reconvened at the Kettle O’Fish restaurant next to
the harbour. Any concerns about them being able
to cope with such a sudden influx of customers was
quickly dispelled and our first group had been
courteously served,
including one man who
wanted a combination of
items from different
menus, before the next group arrived. By the
time we’d finished our excellent fish, chips and
mushy peas in Ian’s case, the restaurant was
completely packed with EKAM members.
I counted 55 bikes in the car park but there were
more in the bike park opposite and some of the
bikes were carrying pillions.
A big thank you to the Kettle O’Fish for
accommodating us.
