Family Fun Day 23rd August

On the
blisteringly hot
afternoon
when England
regained the
Ashes, EKAM
were the
guests of John
Leigh-
Pemberton on
his beautiful
estate near
Doddington.
We enjoyed a BBQ organised and
cooked by Charles Tassell, and a
chain saw talk by club member
Simon Odam. The tree being felled
was
inconveniently overhanging the track
of John’s miniature steam railway,
on which many excited “children” (of
all ages!) had rides throughout the
afternoon.  Hugh Williams, another
club member, did most of the setting
up of the chain sawing over the
track. Health & Safety precautions
included loud
blasts on the
engine’s
whistle. 
My 3 year old
granddaughter
decided the
engine was
called ‘Percy’
(of Thomas the
Tank Engine
fame) but she
was probably
mistaken. The extensive ride
wound amongst blissfully cool
woodland and the unexpected and
very dark tunnel provided more
excitement.  The ducks and
