Dear Ed,
One my way to work this morning Dover to
Sevenoaks - harsh winds, heavy rain and fog, I
turned off M20 heading through to Sevenoaks. I’m
not sure what the road was but there was woodland
both sides and massive puddles in the dips.
I was approximately 6 car lengths back from an Audi,
holding a steady 60mph when I got a bright light in
my mirror. A car was right behind me so I did a quick
mirror check while riding in Pos 5 just to see what he
was up to. He was a bit close but all good UNTILL I
looked ahead. The Audi had slammed his breaks on!
I locked the rear wheel and was sliding straight and giving the front a squeeze
as the back started to wobble. I released the rear brake keeping pressure on
front until it stopped wobbling, then hit the rear break again allowing me to skid
past the Audi. I used the other side of the road as it was safe and was a good
escape route. I pulled over and got off the bike to see the guy behind me
planted into the Audi (that put a smile on my face!).
After a few choice words I asked the Audi driver what was he doing. He replied,
“I stopped to go slow through this puddle”.
“What????”, I said. Why not just indicate and move round, NOT stop! And to be
honest, it wasn't that big, it was just wide.
The guy at the rear took my details in case he needed a statement. As I wasn't
really involved in the accident I went my merry way.
The thing I’m trying to say is if I hadn't got involved with EKAM I probably
wouldn't be here now. My actions may or may not be correct but with the
training I have had, I was riding in a position where I had an escape route.
Granted, if something was coming the other way well, who knows? I would
probably have moved over to Pos 1 giving me the same exit.
THANKS EKAM!

Dear Ed,
Can I bring to your and the club's attention a handy cheep little gadget to help
you to remember to turn off your indicators -something I am sure we all forget
to do on the odd occasion and this is a possible safety concern.
I have had my unit for about 4 months so that I have had a good trial before
recommending the sounder kit.
I bought my sounder kit from Busters but having contacted the manufacturers, I
have arranged a direct purchase cost for the three variations. Each kit comes
with every thing you need to install the sounder with the exception of pliers and
possibly a screw driver.
